Welcome!Although photographs are grouped by subject matter, the overarching theme is time: the depiction of the passage of time and the experience of time. Given that I have been taking pictures since I was a teen, it seems that I have the opportunity to create a unique body of work, i.e. one that connects my past with my present. For example, when I was at Yale Architecture School I roomed with other students in a large house. We had a party and I set up an empty room as a portrait studio. I took portraits of everybody who came. I had an exhibition of those portraits at the Art and Architecture Building at Yale. Now, forty plus years later, I am searching for everybody who attended that party to re-take their portrait. So far, I have found about a dozen (see Yale Architecture School Buddies under People).
Another example: In the sixties I visited Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and photographed the Morris House. I was there again in 2010 and re-photographed the same house (see Morris House under Architecture). Neither the depiction of the passage of time nor the experience of time is evident as yet in the images posted in this website. For one thing, I have to dig out the old pictures and scan them. (Procrastination is also one of my themes, but I have not yet figured out how to depict it!) For now, please enjoy the photographs for themselves. This project will unfold over time, appropriately enough! All photographs copyrighted by Alberto Lau. All rights reserved. |
